We invite you to join us on a 360° journey to the Mitchell-Morrison Cemetery, tucked away in western Scioto County near Buena Vista in Nile Township. This quiet cemetery sits on a prominent ridge overlooking the Ohio River and contains numerous early burials—many from before 1860—offering a glimpse into the area’s pioneer past.
In late 2024, a fire moved through part of Shawnee State Forest, reportedly reaching the vicinity of the cemetery. When we passed by not long after, we noticed the pathway up the ridge had been scorched. Knowing the greenbriar would soon reclaim the hillside, we took the opportunity to make the hike while the ground was still exposed.
Our goals were twofold: first, to check if any grave markers had been damaged by the fire; and second, to see if the burning of brush and trees might have revealed any markers that were previously hidden or undocumented. This 360° video captures that walk and offers a rare, immersive look at this remote and historically significant burial ground.
