“Some Democrats in the vicinity of Mt. Carmel voting precinct, Madison township, while ratifying the Presidential election recently, had two pounds of powder which they intended to discharge from a hollow casting of a cane mill, when some sparks from a stump hard by, exploded the powder, badly burning Joseph Bonzo, and seriously burning Francis Dever about the eyes. It is feared that his sight may be impaired or totally destroyed. Dr. Ray is attending Mr. Dever.”1
