“James king, an aged carpenter and saw filer, was arrested by Officer Henry Clark at Twelfth and Gay street Wednesday noon. King is said to have been up to his old tricks of annoying little girls. Chief Phillips will hold him pending investigation of complaints.”1

James King, an aged carpenter, was adjudged insane by Probate Judge TC Beatty Tuesday afternoon and will be committed to the Athens asylum.”

“King was found to have a temperament for mistreating little girls in the North End, having twice been taken into custody on complaint of parents.”2

“A message received Monday night informed local officers that James King and ‘Catsy’ Sly3, two Scioto county patients at the state hospital at Athens, had escaped and were making their way home.”

“The pair have been in the institution for several months. Sly’s mental trouble being attributed to strong drink, while King is an aged man with a weakened mind, who has a mania for mistreating children. No trace of the runaways has been secured here, but should they show up they will promptly be taken into custody and taken back.”4
