“William I. Denning, only son of John B. and Mary A. Denning, was born near West Union, Adams County, January 31, 1850, and passed peacefully away at his home on the West Side, Sunday, May 1st, at 7:15 p.m., aged 51 years, 3 months and 1 day. He came to Scioto County while still a young man and September 3, 1890, was united in marriage to Mary M. Smith, of which union nine children were born as follows: Infant, deceased, Ottie, John, Tulie, Frank, Roby, deceased, Effie, Howard and Lillian.”
“Mr. Denning had been a farmer and teamster all his life. He was an energetic and conscientious worker, known and loved by all men working with and under him. Though he was of a quiet and reserved disposition his more intimate friends knew him as humorous and witty and especially fond of children. He bore the last two years of intense suffering with patience and resignation and was anxious for the only change which he knew could relieve him.”
“Besides the wife and seven children he leaves to mourn his loss a sister, Mrs. Lydia Spohn of Cincinnati, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of friends.”1
