
“To date 182 burial grounds have been located in Scioto county through the WPA project sponsored by adjutant general of Ohio with the American Legion as co-sponsor.”
“The project is designed to locate and mark permanently graves of all United States war veterans. There will be a card record showing, name, address, serial number, next of kin, date and place of birth, date, place and cause of death, location of grave, war record, branch of service, rank and date enlisted and discharge, type of marker, if any.”
“The project also calls for a reference cemetery play map showing location of all veterans’ graves.”
“Headquarters for the Scioto county project are in the home of James Dickey post. The assistance and aid od patriotic associations, all military service organization and churches is sought in making this work complete. The next of kin, descendants and relatives of deceased veterans are of immeasurable help in this work. Anyone known of an isolated burial ground, on a farm, abandoned church yard or various out-of-the-way places should send a postcard or letter to the American Legion care of the veterans’ graves registration project.”
“The project has been designed to prepare a comprehensive record of the graves in Ohio of deceased honorably discharged veterans of the Army, Navy and other military establishments of the Unites States, including Confederates States of America, of all wars. The work includes inspection of burial grounds, preparation or duplication of cemetery plat maps in uniform style, checking of death and burial records and preparation of a card record.”1
