Commissioner Declares Missing Soldiers Presumed Dead

Commissioner Dudley has made a rule that where a soldier was captured in good health and is now an invalid as a result of imprisonment, the presumption is that he contracted his disability in the line of his duty. Also, if a soldier was captured in the line of duty and was not heard of again, the presumption is that he is dead, and the widow is entitled to a pension, even though the proofs of his death are not produced.”1
