“Carter Buffington, for the past thirteen years engineer for the Maddock Brothers1, and their uncle, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Hazlitt2, on the West side, last Sunday, of old age and debility, in his 76th year. The deceased was born in Virginia, and came to Ohio about 50 years ago. In 1834 he removed to Newport, Kentucky., where he resided many years, and again returned to this State. His children numbered 12 or 13, of whom only about half the number survive him. Mr. Buffington was compelled to abandon active employment in December last, since which time his health gave away. The funeral services were conducted by the Reverend Dr. Pratt, last Tuesday.”3
