Cemetery Notes:
- 20240914 Visited cemetery after receiving permission from adjacent property owner, Marietta and Darrell York (Parcel 24-0255.00) to use driveway to park. Adjacent Mrs. York states that she remembers a cemetery being located on Parcel 24-1646.000 owned by the State of Ohio Department of Corrections, but the area was overgrown and the exact location of the cemetery was not known, but had had been told that decades prior the cemetery had been located near US 23, west of the railroad right of way, but had been moved to allow for the widening of US 23. She was uncertain if the cemetery had been located on the East or West side of US 23. She did remember that one day several years ago, that Parcel 24-1646.000 in the vicinity of the current location of the cemetery was being cleared by earth moving equipment. She informed the operators that there was a cemetery in that area, but was uncertain as to it’s exact location. According to her the operators stated that no cemetery was known to be in that area. The York’s stated that they found several headstones, footstones, and bases pushed westward over the embankment that parallels the ballast to the railroad. Upon this discovery the York’s informed either the property owners or operators who informed them that they could move the markers back up the hill, but since their exact location had not been known there was no way to return them to their original location. Working in conjunction with the operators the Yorks were able to place the markers, in single row as it exists today, with the exception of one marker whose base was too heavy to be moved and as of the visit on 20240914 is more near than the rest of the markers.
