Cemetery Notes:
- Visited cemetery in November 2023 to document location to include updated location information, condition, and photographs. Spoke with widow of Norm Allen and his son. Cemetery is in active use as a family burial grounds, but older burials, many of which are uninscribed fieldstones are not directly related to the more recent burials. Cemetery is located along fields that are being actively planted and permission must be granted before access can be granted. Cemetery was well-maintained.
- The original estimate of 80 burials appears to have been overestimated as there are currently 5 post-1900 named burial markers and there are approximately 24 field-stone/footstone pairs. Of these fieldstone burial markers at least 3 are marked with variations of the name indicator for White (**ite, W, RW). When speaking with a relative of the property owner it was determined that the Whites were associated with the current property owner’s family which has resided at that location since the late 1880’s. This information is additional supported by the application for the federal marker for David Gregory, a veteran, for whom this cemetery is currently named. His application indicates that his burial is at White’s Cemetery which may have been the cemeteries previous name.
- A more recent visit to this cemetery shows that the OGS’s information is dated and possibly incorrect.
- The cemetery is currently active with at least one burial as recent as 2020. The cemetery sit on a slight rise above and beyond agriculture land and shows not indication of agriculture or livestock encroachment. The property is relatively remote and well-maintained by the property owner. There are no indications of man-made or natural damage to the grounds or monuments.
