Cemetery Notes:
In July 2003, M. Todd and Gitana Fishburn visited the cemetery of their ancestors. They obtained permission from the land owner, Mrs. Virginia Ratliff to access the cemetery. In a note to SCCOGS President Gladys Reynolds regarding the cemetery, Mrs. Fishburn writes: “My husband spent a couple hours literally pulling the timber floor off of the stones. We trimmed a few branches over the stones.” “We are very protective of this cemetery at this time. We want to clean up the cemetery, but not make it so visible as to encourage “stone toppling, or even stealing”. We planted a hosta in hopes that if someone stumbled upon the cemetery they would know that it had been looked upon recently.” “We are very fortunate to have had the opportunity to have walked where our ancestors walked and to have attended to their gravesite that has been neglected for too many years.”
Mr. and Mrs. Fishburn live in Illinois. If you are related to the Fishburn family, and/or have more information regarding the family or the Fishburn Cemetery, you may email them at: OURHONEY86@aol.com
