Cemetery Location Description:
Cemetery is at the top of a hill near Slate Point. It is best accessed via vehicle from the AA Highway. From the AA Highway turn onto Fingerboard Road near the Grayson Spur. The road to access the cemetery is mostly gravel and at least a front-wheel drive vehicle would be required to access the top of the hill.

DANIEL RAY MCADAMS, 53, of Vanceburg died at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Born at Vanceburg on February 2, 1957, to the late Edgar Ray McAdams and Kathryn Leona Tolle McAdams, he was a self-employed carpenter and woodcrafter.
Survivors include five sisters, Regina (Mark) Carroll of Greenup, Sherry Burton of Greenup, Raeann (Lundy) Howard of Waverly, Ohio, Twylla (Robert) James of Nashville, Tennessee, and Pauletta Logan of Hillsdale, Michigan; five brothers, Anthony (Anita) McAdams of Flemingsburg, John McAdams of Marion, Lanny McAdams of Tollesboro, Timothy (Thea) McAdams of Greenup and James McAdams of Boynot, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Anthony officiating. Burial was in Evans Cemetery at Vanceburg. Mary Ruth Patton, daughter of James D Patton and Hazel L Tolle, was born September 23, 1938 and died September 29, 1938 as a result of a birth injury. George Washington Bryan, son of John Bryan and unknown mother, was born June 22, 1880 and died January 27, 1937. He was married to Ola Mae Mofford. Esther Evans, wife of James Elmer Evans, was born December 20, 1923 and died December 15, 1985. Carol Ann Evans Smith, age 66, of Salt Lick Road in Tollesboro, Ky., passed away Thursday morning, June 13, 2013, at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
She was born February 18, 1947, in Lewis County, Ky., a daughter of James Evans of Tollesboro and the late Ester Mahaney Evans.
Carol was of the Pentecostal faith and was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, reading, and working puzzles. Carol especially loved her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Lonzo Evans.
Besides her father, Carol is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Brian and Sandra Smith of Scottsville, Ky., two daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa and Jon Bond of Madisonville, Ky., and Miranda Smith of Cedar Grove, Tenn., five grandchildren, Krysten Bond, Robert Bond, Wyatt Smith, Victoria Smith, and Brianna Smith, one brother, James Evans of Leslie, Mich., three sisters, Deloris Allen of Albion, Mich., Donna Moore of Tollesboro, Ky., and Barbara Thurman of Petersville, Ky., and the father of her children, Ralph Smith. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, Ky., with Brother Brian Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Slate Point Cemetery in Vanceburg, Kentucky.

Lucille E Evans (nee Bryant), daughter of Ira Bryant and Ola Mofford, was born September 19, 1914 in Campbell County, Kentucky, and died August 19, 1943. She was the wife of Harry Elsworth Evans. Rose Thacker (nee Evans), daughter of Elza Paris Evans and Mountie Ellen Teets, was born July 5, 1903 and died April 8, 1925 from pulmonary tuberculosis. She was married to Edgar Warner Thacker. Elza Paris Evans, son of Richard William Evans and Mary Catherine Stapleton, was born October 27, 1877 and died May 16, 1923. He was married to Mountie Ellen Teets. Mountie Ellen Evans (nee Teets), wife of Elza Paris Evans, was born March 15, 1885 and died November 29, 1958. Donald N Evans, infant son of Dolly Mae Lewis Evans, was born February 3, 1933 and died about 1934. Francis Marion “Frank” Evans, son of Richard William Evans and Mary Catherine Stapleton, was born July 17, 1868 and died November 29, 1936. His second wife, Amanada Ellen Evans (nee Lewis), daughter of David and Anna Lewis, was born August 28, 1894 and died November 22, 1941 as a result of acute intestinal blockage. Lorene Evans, daughter of Francis Marion “Frank” Evans and Amanda Ellen Lewis, was born and died February 14, 1924. George Edward Evans, infant son of Francis Marion “Frank” Evans and Amanda Ellen Lewis, was born and died February 22, 1916. Amanda Belle Evans (nee Davis), daughter of Alonzo Davis and Mary Evans, was born June 12, 1872 and died January 7, 1901. She was the first wife of Francis Marion “Frank” Evans. Alonzo Davis, husband of Mary J Evans, served with Company H, 18th Kentucky Infantry during the Civil War. Viola E Evans, infant daughter of Ernest & Olive Justus Evans, was born December 18, 1916 and died December 29, 1916. George Mahaney, son of William Mahaney and Julie Martin, was born September 7, 1886 and died November 1974. Helen L Evans, wife of Sylvester Evans, was born April 25, 1916 and died October 23, 2004. Sylvester Evans, son of Michael Evans and Mary Elizabeth Yates, was born June 7, 1913 and died March 3, 2002.

Sylvester Evans, 88, of Vanceburg Rehabilitation Center of Vanceburg, Ky., died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Bryan Evans; son, Kenneth Evans; daughter, Sandy Collins; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaydos Funeral Home at Vanceburg, with the Rev. Nelson Evans officiating, and interment in Evans-Staggs Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Lillie May Staggs (nee Kennedy), daughter of Christopher Columbus Kennedy and Sarah Frances Truesdell, was born April 3, 1912 and died April 7, 1998.
Harry Owrey Staggs, Sr., son of Claud Francis Staggs and Seneth Victoria Evans, was born September 18, 1904 and died January 26, 1977. Harry Owrey Staggs, Jr., infant son of Harry Owrey Staggs and Lillie May Kennedy, was born and died December 27, 1930. RW Evans was born about 1835 and died January 27, 1887. During the Civil War he served with Company F 24th Kentucky Infantry. James David “Jim Crow” Qualls, son of John Qualls and Mary E Buckner, was born September 12, 1861 and died August 14, 1933. Ethal Laoma Evans, twin daughter of Leo Sidney Evans and Velva Conley, was born April 10, 1939 and died May 4, 1939. Donald Evans, son of Leo Sidney Evans and Velva Sidney Conley, died March 14, 1941. Claud Francis Staggs, son of Granville Busby Staggs and Annie Lysa Burnett, was born June 19, 1879. He lives his life in the Slate area (Slate Hollow, Slate Point, Slate Creek). He married Seneth about 1900. In 1910 he was a teamster, 1920 a button cutter at the button factory, in 1930 farming, and 1940-42 working for the government including the WPA. He died in 1962.
Seneth Victoria Staggs (nee Evans), wife of Claud Francis Staggs, was born about 1880 and died in 1947. Nancy Jane Neal (nee Evans), daughter of Michael Evans and Mary E Buckner, was born August 11, 1886 and died January 27, 1946. She was the wife of William A Neal. Ethel Neal, son of William A Neal and Nancy Jane Evans, was born and died February 14, 1917. Chester R Neal, son of William A Neal and Nancy Jane Evans, was born May 25, 1921 and died August 8, 1940.

Vanceburg, Aug. 9 – Chester R. Neal, 19, died Thursday at Portsmouth General Hospital following an emergency appendectomy.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Neal; two sisters, Mrs. Earl Windsor and Geneva, both of Vanceburg; and three brothers, Robert, James and John, all of Vanceburg.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Plummer Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Fielding Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Evans Cemetery under the direction of Plummer Bros. William A Neal, was born about 1882 and died in 1944. Elsie Emma Tolle (nee Simpler), daughter of Charles Simpler and Mary Evans, was born August 11, 1894 and died February 21, 1951. Donna J McKinney, died February 5, 1940. Edith Ethel Scott Carroll (nee Kennedy), daughter of Omar Kennedy and Mary Beard, was born December 3, 1937 and died August 27, 2020. Her first husband was Earl Scott and her second hudband was Ralph E Carroll.
Ralph E Carroll, son of Theodore Carroll and Viola Clarissa Staggs, was born May 27, 1934 and died May 19, 1996. Wayne Carroll, infant son of Edith W and Maurice Carroll, was born July 31, 1934 and died September 17, 1934. Milton Carroll was born January 5, 1941 and died February 21, 1941. Edith S McDaniel, was born about March 1945 and died about November 1945. Theadore McDaniel was born about December 1933 and died about July 1943.
