Clara Adams Weis Dies at 47 After Brief Illness

Mrs. Adam Weis1, after an illness of about one week, passed quietly away, at the residence on West Third street, Thursday morning at 6:30 o’clock.”

“Mrs. Weiss had not been in good health since her visit to Cleveland last August, but as she was a woman of great fortitude and energy, she refused to give up to her disease until several days ago. On Friday of last week, however, her general indisposition becoming complicated with a severe cold, she was obliged to take her bed, and, as she had frequently told her family that when she once gave up to sickness she would never recover, her words were sadly fulfilled by her death, which soon followed.”

“Clara Adams was born in Geinsheim, Bavaria, on the 29th day of December, 1843, and was consequently at the time of her death in her 47th year. She came to this country in 1856 with her parents, and at first lived in Columbus, coming to this city shortly afterwards. She became the wife of Adam Weis June 6th, ’69, by whom she had five children. One died in infancy, and the remaining four are, Annie, Lucy, Clara and Michael, all single and living at home. Her surviving stepchildren are Mrs. Ben Hangs and Miss Mary Weis, of this city, and Mr. John Weis, of Bryan, Ohio. These, with her husband and an aged mother, who lived with her, with a wide circle of friends, mourn her loss. She was a good woman, a good wife and mother, and she has gone to claim her reward.”

“The funeral will take place from St. Mary’s Catholic church to-morrow morning at ten o’clock.”2
