
“Josiah Sherman Jeffords, a former well known resident of the West Side, died Tuesday morning at 7:30 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sadie Terry1, of Ironton. The remains were brought here on an N. & W. train Thursday morning and taken to the Bethel church on the West Side where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Dillon and Rev. A. W. Carroll. The remains were interred in Carey’s Run cemetery.”
“Josiah Jeffords was born in Massac county, Ill., in 1834. At the age of nine years he came to this county with his parents and located on the West Side. In 1857 he was married to Miss C. Craig, of Scioto county, and to whom were born the following children, who survive: Mrs. Sadie Terry, of Ironton; Mrs. Isabel Riggs, of Minford; W. W. and John Jeffords, of Wellston. He also leaves four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. One of the grandchildren is E. C. Jeffords2, a well known resident of the West Side.”
“Mr. Jeffords’ wife died four years ago, and since that time he has been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Terry, in Ironton.”
“He was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting in the Thirtieth O. V. I., and serving four years. For fifty years he was a resident of the West Side.”3
