“Word was received here today by Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Van Bibber of east of Greenup that a football injury proved fatal to their son, Carl Van Bibber, 24, a soldier in the U.S. Army stationed in Hawaii.”

“Mr. Van Bibber suffered an injured vertebra Friday in a football game and died at 3:55 p.m. Sunday after pneumonia set in.”

“He was a graduate of Greenup High school and was a football star on the 1924 team. He also was described as the best all-around track man ever to run for Greenup High.”

“He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Homer of Fort Thomas, Ky., and Charles, an aviator stationed with the U.S. Navy in Hawaii.”

“The body will be shipped to Greenup for burial.”1
