Visiting Brick Union Cemetery – A Genealogical Field Note

Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd, Greenup County, Kentucky, is one we’ve passed many times while crossing the Greenup Dam. At first glance, it appears to be a relatively newer cemetery, but we’ve long known it to be the final resting place of William Biggs—a figure we became familiar with while working on a prior transcription project. His headstone had already been photographed and posted online, but we wanted to capture our own image for archival purposes and take the opportunity to explore the cemetery more fully.

During a recent visit to the area, we stopped to walk the grounds and document what we could. While there, we photographed several markers that had not yet been added to FindAGrave and focused especially on older burials that may have been previously overlooked or not clearly photographed. For existing entries, we provided updated images and added GPS coordinates to help improve accessibility for genealogists and researchers.

We also took time to cross-reference names with local obituaries and burial records, strengthening the historical context for those interred here. These small but meaningful efforts help preserve the genealogical landscape of Greenup County and make it easier for non-local researchers to connect with their family histories.

At the bottom of this story is a gallery of images that we’ve already uploaded to FindAGrave. If you’re researching families along the Ohio River in northeastern Kentucky, Brick Union is a cemetery worth including in your work.
