Springville’s Ohio River Lookout House

“The undersigned would respectfully announce to the citizens of Portsmouth and surrounding country, that he has since last season carefully refitted and put in good order the ‘Lookout House,’ on the summit of the Kentucky hills, opposite Portsmouth.”

“Picnic parties and pleasure seekers will find this resort, during the summer, very pleasant, having quite an extended view of the Ohio river, the Scioto Valley and the City of Portsmouth. Ladies and gentlemen visiting this House will receive courteous attention, and will be supplied with ice cream and refreshing beverages at reasonable prices. A good band will be in attendance, and an excellent floor for dancing. Good order will be maintained and no intoxicating drinks will be allowed on the grounds. Tickets, including ferriage both ways, and admission to the House and grounds, can be had on the ferry at 15 cents each. -CJ Hilton, Proprietor.”1
