“From a reliable source it is learned that application will be made to the city council, Wednesday evening, to condemn the land necessary for the proposed extension of Greenlawn Cemetery.”
“Members of the board of public service when questioned about the matter thought that the time had not yet quite arrived for that. They said a petition would probably be presented and Superintendent WHH Montgomery of the cemetery, had spoken of circulating one. As for beginning the condemnation proceedings, they said, that they first wanted to agree on the lines, and get a complete description of the land before taking any steps. They wish to inspect the land in view with the various councilmen and decide first which portion should be acquired for the purpose. Otherwise the councilmen may have views of their own and hold up the entire plan. The roads have been too muddy the past few days to go over the ground, and it may not be until next week that action is taken. The board favors extending Hutchings and Franklin avenues north and adding all that territory embracing the Amberg and Timmonds stips to the cemetery. Samuel Timmonds and associates, however, want the land for a private cemetery.”
“Mr. Timmonds said Tuesday morning that the incorporation papers of the Evergreen Cemetery Association had not yet been returned by the secretary of state.”
