Death of Mrs. Colonel Henry Ewing Jones

“Last Saturday morning about half-past eight o’clock, Mrs. Harriet Jones1, relict of Colonel HE Jones2, expired at the residence of her mother, Mrs. Timbrooks3, in the eastern suburbs of the city, after a long and tedious illness of consumption. Deceased was in her 45th year, and by her genial, sunny disposition and noble character had gathered about her a host of friends. Long since stricken with the disease that afterward carried her off and realizing that her end was near, her only prayer was for the care and welfare of her children she was compelled to consign to the charity of her friends. This was her only source of anxiety during all her illness and the vital spark lingered longer that her wishes in that regards might be complied with before she passed away.”

“The deceased was married to Colonel Henry E. Jones in Mary, 1868, four children, the eldest now thirteen years old4, resulting from that union. Colonel Jones died September 13, 1876.”

“The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon from the residence of her mother, a large concourse of friends and acquaintances attesting their regard for the deceased by their presence. Reverend WC McGuire, of Christ Church, delivered an appropriate address on the solemn occasion.”5
