Death of George W. Coffrin

“Our citizens were pained to lean of the sudden death of Ex-Sheriff George Coffrin, one of the pioneers of this county and now a resident of the West Side, which occured at the family residence on Dry Run, at an early house last Thursday morning. He was taken ill the Thursday previous, the disease assuming the form of typhoid pneumonia. The family were not alarmed at this sickness until a few hours before his death. The oldest son started for a doctor but the father pleaded for him to return saying that he was not very sick. A few hours later he was a corpse. Mr. Coffrin was elected Sheriff of this county in 1854, serving one term. He was a member of Dry Run Methodist Episcopal Church; a wife and five children survive. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon.”1
