“Mrs. Eliza Ellison1, wife of Joseph Ellison, of Sciotoville, Ohio, departed this life July 15th, 1876, aged fifty-nine years and four months, after suffering a severe and painful illness for near four months. She was a kind and affectionate wife and mother. It was a sad loss to the family, and relatives and friends. We wish to extend our thanks to the many friends who so kindly assisted us during her illness.
“Our mother is dead! Oh the sadness
It sends through our trembling hearts;
It stills the song of joy and gladness.
And the smile of mirth departs.”
“Our mother is dead! but remember,
In love God chastens us all;
In time and his own good pleasure,
We, too, shall answer his call.”
“Our mother is dead! Look up higher,
And there ‘mid the angel band
Behold the form of our mother,
At rest in the bright sunny land.”
“Our mother is dead- yet liveth!
She waits for us all on the shore;
Her hand seems to beckon us over
Where sickness and sin are no more.”
“Our mother is dead! Ah no!
Though her form will never more come;
In heavenly bliss her spirit lives
At rest, at peace, at home.”2
