“In charge of Deputy Sheriff Peter Smith and wife, Mrs. Nettie Baker, who was acquitted of the murder of John W. Morris by a jury in Judge Blair’s court last Wednesday, left Saturday morning over the B&O for Athens, where she was taken to be confined in the state insane asylum.”
“Mrs. Theresa Davis, adjudged insane in the probate court here, was also taken to the institution. Mrs. Baker before leaving became reconciled to her fate and chatted pleasantly with relatives and acquaintances who called at the station to say goodbye before the train departed. For several minutes before the train pulled out Mrs. Baker’s son, Thomas, sat by her side in the coach. The mother hugged and kissed her boy, and remarked ‘he was her little husband and they were going away on their honeymoon.’ It was a sad parting between the mother and son.”1
