Brown Agrees To Pay

“By agreement Walter Brown will pay his wife, Daisy Brown, of Eleventh street, the sum of $10 a week, according to an approved entry filed in the office of the clerk of court. Wednesday, pending the final hearing on her petition for divorce and alimony.”

“Judge Thomas also allowed a temporary injunction restraining Brown from interfering with or molesting her in any manner until the case is heard on its merits.”1

Workman Hurt

“Walter Brown, a steelworker is in the Portsmouth General hospital as the result of a fall from a ladder while working on one of his new buildings under process of erection at the N and W terminals yesterday afternoon. Physicians in attendance said that while painfully bruised the man’s condition is not serious unless he has internal injuries.”

“Brown was employed by the West Virginia Steel Construction Company and was working on a ladder some 30 feet from the ground. The ladder suddenly toppled and he was thrown to the earth landing on his stomach. Other workman came to his aid and the Richards ambulance was called to take him to the hospital.”2

“Walter Brown, Sciotoville underwent an operation for appendicitis in Portsmouth General hospital Friday.”3

Injuries Fatal to Youth

Roy Brown, 7-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown of 1024 Gallia street, who was injured when he fell 20 feet from a fire escape on the Selby Shoe plant died in Portsmouth at 1 AM Thursday.”

“In addition to the parents four brothers survive: Charles, William, Albert and Chester. Mrs. Brown was formerly Miss Daisy Carter. The family formerly resided in Sciotoville. Mr. Brown has been employed by the Portsmouth Works Wheeling Steel Corporation.”4

The Obituary of Walter Brown

“Death at 5:10 o’clock Wednesday morning claimed Walter Brown of 1024 Gallia street, the final summons coming at Portsmouth General hospital, where he submitted to an operation Tuesday afternoon. Brown was admitted to the hospital December 15.”

“Walter Brown was 36 years of age and a son of Mr. and Mrs. FG Brown6 of Kentland and Terrace avenues, Sciotoville. He is survived by his widow Daisy Brown, four sons, his parents, two brothers and a sister. One son met a tragic death several weeks ago in a fall from a fire escape.”

“Mr. Brown had been employed by the Chappelear-Gardner Construction Company for some time.”7
