Death of a Former Portsmouthian

“In Marion county, Illinois, on the 7th inst., Mrs. Catherine Hatch died of dropsy of the heart, aged eighty-six years. The deceased was quite well known here, having at one time been a resident of the county, and will be remembered as a sister of the late M. Kehoe. She was a native of Virginia, having been born at Winchester in that State, January 27, 1795. When yet quite young she came to this county, and was married to Thomas Hatch, they residing for many years in Clay township, near the old Red Schoolhouse. Thomas Hatch died in 1866, and two years later his widow removed to Illinois, making her home with her son, John W. Hatch. The death of Mrs. Hatch takes away the last member of the old family. The remains will be removed here later in the fall for re-interment.”1
