“Jacob Herrell1, aged 60, a veteran saw mill man, was shot and almost instantly killed by his nephew, John Herrell, aged 40, during a violent quarrel in Jackson county, Tuesday night.”
“The shooting occurred just across the Scioto county line five miles from Herrell’s home. The men had quarreled during the day and renewed the quarrel in the evening. The disagreement arose over some lumber. A heated argument resulted and the younger suddenly drew his revolver and shot his uncle through the breast. He died 20 minutes afterward. The gun user was arrested and lodged in the county jail at Jackson. First news of the shooting here was received by Sheriff Evans, of Jackson county, who was in the city, on some secret mission.”2
