“Miss Sallie J. Lutz, eldest daughter of Mrs. JN Lutz1, died at her mother’s residence Sunday evening at 5 o’clock, after a short illness. She has been a patient sufferer almost all her life, but only recently has the disease assumed an acute form. When a small child, only four years old, Miss Lutz fell and received injuries which made her a cripple for life. She had a cheerful, loving disposition and bore the long years of suffering with great patience. She was profecient in painting and crayon work, and was accomplished as a muscician. Her sweet smile and cheerful greeting will be greatly missed by many friends. To her friends, and they are legion, her death was a great blow.”
“Miss Lutz was born in Millburn, New Jersey, June 13, 1864. Her parents came to this city in 1874, and here she has since resided.”
“The funeral will be held at the house tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock, Reverend Dallas Tucker, of All Saints Episcopal church, officiating.”2Miss Sallie Lutz. (1894, August 4). Portsmouth Times, p. 1.
