A Gift for the New Year

On this last day of January we can surely appreciate the frigid picture illustrated for an 1897 calendar produced for Storck & Hopkins, dealers in stoves and ranges, who were located at 114 West Second Street, Portsmouth, Ohio.

While the snow and ice may hang heavy on the barren trees and windswept fields the back of this remarkable piece of ephemera will warm your heart.

In or about 1897 this small calendar was gifted from Charles Oakley Messer, son of Charles C Messer and Cornelia E Temple, to the daughter of William Joseph Cade and Sarah M Vandivort, Nellie L. Cade. In 1896 Charles would have been about eight years of age and Nellie seventeen years of age.
