“Peter Skibski, about 40, a member of the CCC World war veterans company occupying Camp Gordon on Turkey creek, was found dead in a truck at the camp about 4:30 AM today.”
“A number of the men were returning from the city about 10:00 PM when they picked up Skibski and two companions, Fred Sylvester and John Kurek on Turkey creek highway a couple of miles from their camp.”
“Sylvester decided to spend the night in the truck with Skibski and when he left the truck to go to his barracks about 4:20 AM he could not arouse Skibski. Later an investigation revealed he was dead.”
“Sheriff Al Bridwell and Coroner Ross Moore Gault were not called to the camp for several hours and when they made an investigation learned Skibiski and his companions had purchased a gallon of liquor along the road. Sylvester and Kurek were removed to the county jail for investigation and Coroner Gault gave a verdict of death from alcoholism.”
“The victim lived at 3317 Warsaw avenue, Toledo. His company, No. 1541, moved into Camp Gordon from West Virginia.”1
