“Relatives were informed Tuesday of the death by drowning of Cager Wilson Gee, 26, a defense construction worker for the McLean Contracting Company, who lost his life in Chesapeake bay at Turner Station, Maryland.

“Mr. Gee had been in Maryland the last three weeks working for the contracting company, and his wife and daughter were to have left Thursday to join him. He worked last winter for the same company.”

“The body will arrive at 7:35 tonight and will be taken to the WW Ball residence, 1327 Center street. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday at Pilgrim Holiness church, 310 Third street, with Reverend LA Williams in charge. Burial will be in Larkin cemetery under the direction of Emrick.”

“Mr. Gee was born and reared in Carter county, Kentucky, a son of Lytton and Cenie Counts Gee. He came to Portsmouth in 1923 and had resided here and on the West Side since. He was married January 1, 1935, to Edna Mae Ball. His mother preceded him in death in June, 1940.”

“Surviving are his wife, and 5-year-old daughter, Phyllis Jean; his father of the West Side, and these brothers and sister: Lotis, Arthur, and Russell Gee of West Side, Mrs. Edna Fultz of Columbus, Mrs. Vessie Kinney of Portsmouth, Virginia, Mary Lou, and Floris Gee at home.”1
