Two Soldiers Nabbed Here as Deserters

“Two soldiers were arrested Sunday on charges of deserting the army and one faced an additional charge of escaping from the guardhouse.”

“The gave their names as Raymond H Shover, 23, of Friendship, and Meddie Wilson Graley Jr., 21, of Clothier, West Virginia.”

“Sheriff Earl C Brandel received a message from Camp Edwards, Massachusetts, to apprehend Private Shover. When Deputies Russell Burns and Morris Evans and New Boston Patrolman Fred Brown went to the Shover home they also found Private Graley.”

“The message said Private Shover escaped from the camp guardhouse. The soldier told Sheriff Brandel they left the camp, visited in Clothier, then went to Friendship.”1
