The Obituary of Ellen Crawford Warder

“After an illness extending over a period of ten years, Mrs. Ellen K Warder, wife of George M Warder, passed to the Great Beyond at her home, 3939 Rhodes avenue, New Boston, at 1:15 Thursday morning. Complications caused death.”

“The deceased was born in Mason county, Kentucky, her maiden name being Ellen K Crawford. She spent most of her life in Lewis county, Kentucky, leaving Mason county when a girl. She came to Portsmouth in 1892 being married to George M Warder, January 11, 1892 at Bigelow church by Reverend BL Mackelroy. From marriage until death Mrs. Warder made her home in Portsmouth.”

“For almost ten years Mrs. Warder had been an invalid. She suffered greatly with rheumatism. For four weeks she had been near death’s door and the end did not come unexpected, relatives being by her side when she passed away. The deceased was 68 years of age.”

“Besides her husband Mrs. Warder is survived by two brothers, Lewis Crawford of Long Run and William Crawford of Lewis county, Kentucky, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Griffith of Crum, Kentucky.”

“Mrs. Warder united with the Northcut Chapel ME church in Lewis county when a girl. She was a faithful follower of her religion. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at one o’clock from Manly church. Reverend John F Grimes will be in charge of the last rites. Interment will be made in Greenlawn cemetery.”1
