“A mother of six children was killed early roday when her car ran off Carey’s Run Road, less than two miles from her home and crashed into a creekbed.”
“The victim, Mrs. Dorothy Morgan, who would have celebrated her 32nd birthday today, was pronounced head on arrival at Scioto Memorial Hospital at 1:10 AM. She suffered extensive head injuries.”
“Mrs. Morgan was returning home from work when her car left the road near the old Carey’s Run School, about two miles from Route 52.”
“She was found face down in about 18 inches of water about 40 feet from the car. Orland Leadingham, sheriff’s deputy, said Mrs. Morgan was thrown through the windshield.”
“The car hit a utility pole, traveled about 150 feet and then crashed into the creekbed, which is about 8 feet deep. The rear wheels were ripped from the auto by the impact.”
“Mrs. Morgan is the 22nd person to die in traffic accidents in Scioto County this year, five more than all of 1967. Five have died in crashes in Portsmouth and 17 have been killed in the county.”
“Neighbors in the area heard the crash and went to investigate. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grumme live across the road from the scene of the crash and arrived first.”
“Mr. and Mrs. William Parker also came to offer aid and began searching for the car’s driver. Mrs. Morgan was found by Bob Tieman who lives about a quarter of a mile from the scene of the crash.”
“She was taken to the hospital by Roger W Davis ambulance.”

“Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emmit Osborne of Pond Creek; four sons, Jerry, Richard, Donald and Kenneth, and two daughters, Sharon and Annette, all at home; four brothers, Earl Osborne, 1031 Washington Boulevard, West Portsmouth, Virgil of Fremont, Richard of Arizona, and Gary Osborne, stationed with the Army in Germany, and five sisters, Mrs. Della McGuire of Portsmouth Rt. 5, Mrs. Norma Breech of Otway Rt. 1, Mrs. Patricia Spradlin of Rarden, Mrs. Rose Stevens of Freemont and Mrs. Ella Yonce, 1620 Grants. “Services are to be held at 2 PM Tuesday at the residence of the parents. Interment is to be in Larkin Cemetery under direction of Roger W Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth.”
