While visiting Larkin Cemetery in West Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, we came upon this broken stone marker. The partial inscription and accompanying figure was hand-carved as a tribute to a person’s deceased mother. The reverse of the marker appears below.
The partial inscription bears the given name ending in CY followed by a J, and given monument engraving standards, a surname ending in IGGS.
It is believed that the marker have belonged to Nancy Jane Spriggs (nee Deaver) whose family, including children are buried nearby.
