Humane Officer Ball is investigating the identity of the lad. The little fellow is unusually intelligent but has never been acquainted with his family name. His christian name is Jesse.”
“He was taken from a Cincinnati home by Richard and Daisy Haggard of Rarden, both of whom promised to take care of him. Since the lad’s adoption into the family, both Mr. and Mrs. Haggerty have departed for unknown climes. But for the timely discovery of Mrs. Ettel, the lad might have starved to death, alone in the Haggerty home.”1
