The Real Cause of Burgess Denning’s Death

“In our statement last week, of the death of Mr. Burgess Denning, of Nile township, which sad event occurred several weeks ago, we were misinformed as to the cause assigned. We learn from a member of the family that Mr. Denning was taken with a chill the Sunday previous, and was troubled with them daily. On Friday morning he arose feeling in good spirits, asking for a change of apparel. Soon after he was taken with a chill, falling prostrated upon the floor. He rallied, and was conscious until near four o’clock, when he was again taken, remaining unconscious until 6 o’clock, when life was extinct. The physician pronounced it epileptic fits and congestion of the brain. He was born in West Union, Adams county, and came to this county when 15 years of age. He was 56 years, 2 months and 7 days old. Peace to his ashes.[/efn_note](1882, October 7). Portsmouth Times, p. 1.[/efn_note]
