“Hear trouble from which George Jeffords, a native of Scioto county, had suffered for a long time, resulted in his death in Portsmouth General hospital Saturday morning at 5:45 o’clock. He was removed to the hospital Thursday from his room, 1020 Clay street.”
“Mr. Jeffords was 76 years of age and was born in the house that is now the Scioto County Infirmary, owned years ago by Henry C Jeffords, his grandfather, and from whom the county purchased the property.”
“Mr. Jeffords’ mother died when he was only six weeks old and he was reared by his grandparents, who located on what was the Harper place in the East End after the sale of the West Side property. The father of Mr. Jeffords located in the West and passed away some years ago in Nebraska. The son remained in Portsmouth all his life, spending most of his time in the East End, where he worked at odd jobs. For sometime he had been working about the Wedebrook meat marker on Clay street.”
“The body has been removed to the Daehler funeral home, and burial services will be held Monday afternoon with Reverend EH Dailey of the United Brethren church in charge. Burial will be in Greenlawn.”1
