“Vanceburg, February 22 – Mrs. Elsie Emma Petty, 56, widow of Clarence Petty, died of complications at her home in East Vanceburg at 2 PM Wednesday. She had been bedfast eight months.”

“Born August 11, 1894, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Evans Simpler. Her husband died two years ago.”

“Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Hazel Patton and Mrs. Leona McAdams of Vanceburg, Mrs. Louise Barkley and Mrs. Elsie Mae Pine of Marion, Ohio, Mrs. Norma McAdams of Mount Victory, and son by a former marriage, Herman Tolle Jr. of Vanceburg.”

“Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Pearl Houser of Peebles.”

“The body will remain at the residence until Friday at 2PM, when funeral services will be held at the Church of the First Born, with Reverend Claude Staggs officiating. Burial will be in Evans Cemetery at Slate Point, under the direction of Plummer Funeral Home.1
