Death of Nathaniel Barber

Nathaniel Barber, one of our best-known citizens, died at his residence at the corner of Ninth and Court streets Thursday morning of consumption. He had been failing for a long time. He was the brother of John C Barber and of the late Uriah Barber, and was born and raised in this city. He was a little past 60 years of age. For many years he weighed pig iron at the depot of the Branch railroad. He was a hard-working, thrifty man, and leaves a comfortable estate. His wife survives him and several grown children, including Oscar Barber, the well known locomotive engineer. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon.”1
