Sciotoville Free Will Baptist Church and Price Cemetery

“The Free Will Baptists are building a handsome church edifice north of the railroad, 32 by 56 feet, with a neat cupola. The only objection we find to the building is, we think it should have fronted towards the river and the railroad. The ‘village church’ is always a pleasing and picturesque object to the traveler by either rail or river, and it should never turn its back upon the weary wandered. The congregation numbers about 75, is in charge of Reverend Isaac Fullerton, and is at present worshipping in the old red church.”

“The new edifice adjoins the cemetery, and the latter will be enclosed and constitute the village churchyard. In this connection, we would say that we think the citizens of Sciotoville, or of Porter township, or someone, should take charge of the old graveyard across the creek, fence it in, and prevent it from going to ruin as it is at present. This is the oldest graveyard in the county, contains the bones of many of the pioneers, and it should be a matter of pride for Sciotoville to take care of it. It is on private property, and it is gratifying to know that the township trustees are endeavoring to negotiate with the owner, Mr. Price, for its transfer to the township.”1
