Hoping for a White Christmas

“For the first time in many years Portsmouth experienced a ‘white Christmas’ so if tradition holds good there will be a ‘lean graveyard1 this year. The fall of snow Thursday was followed by a sudden drop in temperature, the minimum reading on Saturday morning being 6 above, according to Weather Observer Dr. Harry Schirrmann. The down town streets were practically deserted on Christmas as nearly every age was content to remain at home.2
