“Mr. Keyes was tumbled out of a canoe at the mouth of the Little Scioto on Sunday afternoon, and narrowly escaped drowning. He had strength to swim ashore. This is a local item, but we are sorry to say it is a little antiquated. The accident occurred in March 1813, when Mr. Keys was but 12 years of age, but we have always been behind in getting news from the mouth of the Little Scioto river. Our local reporter up there hadn’t heard a word about it.”1
