At Rush Township Cemetery is the headstone of John M Hill, son of Abraham and Mary A Hill, who was born September 30, 1864 and killed June 2, 1904, at Trinway, Ohio, on the Panhandle Railroad from Columbus to Dennison.

“Trinway, June 2: John Hill, Panhandle engineer, crawled under a car today to examine the air brake. The air being suddenly released started the car and the wheels cut him in two.”1
Ohio Certificate of Death for John M. Hill
From a review of the Ohio Certificate of Death2 was issued in Columbus, Ohio, despite being initially injured in Trinway, Ohio, however, the declaring physician, Matthews, provided an address at Zanesville, Ohio, which is over 16 miles away. This could mean that John Hill survived for some time after his injury.
John’s Remains Accompanied Home
“Mrs. John M. Hill, Miss Clara Radebaugh, Mrs. William Carmen, William Neal, and George Seitz, of Columbus, accompanied the remains of John Hill the Pan Handle engineer who was accidently killed on Thursday.”
“The parties returned to Portsmouth Saturday, remaining with Mrs. Hill’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Minego until Sunday evening.”3
