Mrs. Bertie Wakefield Sines

“A visitor here from Oakland, Maryland, Mrs. Bertie A. Sines, 61, passed away at 2:30 PM Sunday in Portsmouth General hospital, where she was a medical patient two days. Mrs. Sines came three months ago to visit her brother, Van Wakefield, 2024 Robinson Avenue. She had been failing in health several years. She was in a critical condition the last 10 days following a stroke of paralysis.”

“A native of West Virginia, Mrs. Sines was born October 11, 1886, a daughter of the late Robert F. and Amanda Jane Patton Wakefield. She moved to Maryland in 1923.”

“Wed twice, she was preceded in death by both husbands, Dan Kelly and Joseph J. Sines. Mr. Sines died five years ago.”

“Mrs. Sines was a member of the Brethren church in Oakland.”

“Among her survivors are two sister, Misses Ida and Lina Wakefield of Albright, West Virginia; another brother, Jerry Wakefield of Albright; a stepson, Alvin Sines of Friendsville, Maryland; two step-grandchildren and sever step-great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister are deceased.”

“The body is at Piatt funeral home where funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday. Reverend Miles A. Simmons will officiate. Burial will be in the county burial grounds. 1
