John W Alkire Sent to the Infirmary

John W Alkire, aged 73, who came here from Meigs county about seven years ago and has since resided at Union Mills, was warranted over to the county infirmary Tuesday. He is in poor circumstances with no one to care for him and is suffering with an attack of paralysis.”1

On February 1, 1910, John lost his 63 year-old wife Sarah E Alkire (nee Hutton) to a cerebral hemorrhage. They had been married since September 7, 1876. After John’s admission to the infirmary his health continued to decline, and on November 6, 1914 he died as a result of interstitial nephritis and the prolonged effects of pulmonary tuberculosis.

He was buried alongside wife, Sarah, at Larkin Cemetery, in Washington Township, Scioto County, Ohio.
