Over the Hills Goes George P. Gardner

“George P Gardner, a tailor of Marion, Ohio, who blew into Portsmouth last Thursday penniless and has since been hanging around the shop of merchant tailor GT Scott1, on West Second Street, was taken to the county Infirmary Tuesday, until the Marion board can be notified.”

“Gardner became a public charge there last winter, and spent several months in the infirmary of that county. Last spring he started out in hope of ‘making the rifle,’ but without success, and now it is ‘over the hills’ for him again.”2
