“Shock and worry over the death of a grandchild are believed to have hastened the end of Mrs. Sarah Belle McCandless, aged 72, Wednesday evening.”
“Mrs. McCandless collapsed after being brought to town from the infirmary to see her granddaughter Louise, before she passed away from measles last Saturday. A few minutes later the child died and the aged grandmother collapsed. She had been in a critical condition ever since and organic heart trouble caused her death at the home of her son, James McCandless of New Fifth street. The woman was a native of Adams county. She was admitted to the infirmary six years ago. Burial took place Thursday.”1
