Franz Schermer’s Luck

“Superintendent Wishon, of the county infirmary, is in receipt of a letter from C. Pollier, Imperial German consul at Cincinnati, making inquires about Franz Schermer, whom he thought died at the infirmary here in the sixties sometime. The consul hints that there is considerable money coming to Schermer in Germany and says that his family have been tracing him for some months. They believe that he is dead but they cannot touch the inheritance under the laws of the empire until they can furnish complete and satisfactory proof of Schermer’s death. Nothing is known of the man here.”1
