Scioto County Infirmary

Politics in the Purchase of the Infirmary Farm

“The Times gouges away about the county being short of funds last year, and asks us to tell the people where the money went. Well, as near as we can figure the thing out, forty thousand dollars went to one of the Democracy, who had a farm, to sell to the county. Oh! ho! ho! ha! ha! ha! –Tribune

“What a solemn laugh. Was the Democrat to blame for selling his farm as a county infirmary? He was not managing the county finances. They were under the control of the Republican Board of Commissioners. But as $30,000 was all that was paid, the Tribune over-states the amount only $10,000. But this was not the cause of the deficit. Not a dollar was paid on the infirmary farm until after the report of the Commissioners was made which showed the deficit of $18,000. That was not where they money went. The Tribune will have to try again.”1
